My recent trip to the UK had me in a series of meetings, one of which was with XFM, the indierock station operated by Capital Radio London. XFM is just one of the stations they run, the others being of different formats - classical, hip-hop, rock and pop. The guys also gave me a tour of their "brand rooms," which would make anyone in local radio drool and turn an envious shade of green.
Oh, and I thought I saw the Kaiser Chiefs step out of one of the meeting rooms.
After our pleasant little chit chat, the guys from XFM were quite amazed at how Ricky Gervais (who happens to be their former colleague) has gained a somewhat iconic status as a MUSICIAN over here and decided to invite me to their event in a few nights' time. What the connection here was, I have no idea. But in any case, I was grateful. The event was at the Brixton Academy where the Furtureheads and a couple of newbies were playing. I was given 4 tickets and figured this was a perfect time to get together with London-based friends Jenny, Steve & Mica.
Free tickets to The Futureheads! With Steve and Jenny!
LUCKYLUCKYLUCKYLUCKYLUCKYLUCKYLUCKY!!!!!!!!
Actually, we left before the Futureheads' set. Jenny and Steve had to get back home and let go of the babysitter. I really didn't mind since I'd seen them before. But do be on the lookout for the Black Kids, this new band from Florida, all four of us totally loved them!
I love the brand rooms--partial to the red Rock ones.
Saya saya ng outing ninyo!
He was making meme na :D Those brand rooms were to die for! There was actually another one which I wasn't able to take a photo of. Its wallpaper were typical scenes of London and the chairs were taken from old double decker buses. How cool is that? It was predominantly red, too!
I think they were referring to Seona Dancing's "More to Lose" which was a ridiculously big hit in Manila. Incidentally, Ricky Gervais was the lead singer of Seona Dancing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV3nw8RBPdY
I did tell them about all that, they were pretty clueless. All they know is that he was in some cockamimy band way back when, and hence their amazement.

Oh, I thought what you meant was that they mentioned it and that you didn't know what the connection was.. haha. Ricky Gervais cracks me up.
